Volunteer Opportunities

Education:  Looking for a way to share your enthusiasm and knowledge of plants?  Opportunities abound!

Tour Docents
Become a Docent.  Walk with school or adult groups through the showrooms, focusing on the Conservatory’s rain forest and desert collections.  Training starts this fall.  Time commitment:  1 1/2 hours for each tour as scheduled.

Exploration Station
Facilitate as visitors learn about plants through interactive displays and games.  Time commitment:  2 1/2 hours on Saturday mornings as scheduled.

Exploration Kits
FOPCON’s Exploration Kits are designed for kindergarten classrooms where students are just discovering how a seed becomes a plant!  Volunteers are needed to help provide these interactive kits to District 97 schools.  Time commitment:  Varies

Toddler Exploration Time (TET)
This program runs on the 3rd Friday of every month, September – May (no December) from 9:30 – 10:15 and again from 10:45 – 11:30.  Each session welcomes 18-month to 5-year olds.  Toddlers and their caregivers will experience nature through a story, hands-on activity and a trip through one of the Conservatory showrooms.  Time commitment:  One and a half hours (1 1/2) on Friday mornings, as scheduled.

Operations:  We’re always looking for detail-oriented individuals who like to work in an office setting.
Opportunities include assisting with mailings, making photocopies, phone calls, tallying hours or helping with tech support.  We also have a need for volunteers to act as receptionists on Monday afternoons from 2:00-4:00pm or to work in our Gift Shop on a weekly basis.  Time commitment:  Varies

Plant Care:  If you have a general interest in plants and love getting your hands dirty, then come join the fun!  You can help care for plants at the Conservatory or in the parks.

Special Events:  A wide range of one-day or one-project events take place throughout the year.  Come on – Join in the excitement!We have many events throughout the year and each event requires dedicated volunteers to work behind the scenes or with the public to create a success story.  Consider becoming one of those innovative masterminds!  Time commitment:  Varies with each event.

Leadership Opportunities:  Are you an “ideas” person?  Are you interested in the “big picture”?  Have we got a place for you!
Board and committee members volunteer to work on membership, education, fundraising, public relations and more.  If you have interest or background in any of these areas, we need you. Time commitment:  Varies with each committee.
