SUMMARY:Rain Gardens 101: How To\, January 23
DESCRIPTION:Are you curious about Rain Gardens and how they can benefit your garden? Join us as Jerry Hossli\, University of IL Extension Master Gardener\, Composter and Naturalist introduces us to Rain Gardens 101.  FREE – at the Oak Park Public Library\, Main location.  We will meet in the 1st floor Community Engagement Space behind the check out.  Register online here.  \nYou will learn the basics of rain gardening design\, as well as how to build and plant a rain garden. The talk will also cover water conservation and identifying what native plants work best in these types of gardens.  Rain gardens are shallow\, constructed depressions planted with deep-rooted native plants and grasses. Installing a rain garden is an inexpensive\, simple to implement and environmentally sound solution to residential and urban stormwater runoff. \nJerry Hossli has been working in the community since 2008. He has designed and built rain gardens\, bird gardens and native ponds at Cook County Forest Preserve nature centers. Working with the Conservation@Home program he has delivered talks and workshops on bird gardens\, beneficial insects\, soils\, insect hotels\, landscape design and composting.  He retired from his own landscaping and garden coach business last year and now devotes all of his free time to volunteering.  He has been digging in the yard since 1970. \nSpace is limited so register online today!  Walk in registration accepted as space allows.   \nAre you a Master Gardener?  Attend and earn education credits.

SUMMARY:Donate today to our Annual Appeal
DESCRIPTION:The Friends of the Oak Park Conservatory plans to celebrate its 35th Anniversary in 2021. We have the community to thank for the strength and longevity of this institution. While we are now on the National Registry of Historic Places\, in the 1970s the Conservatory was in disrepair and was slated to be demolished to make way for a parking lot!  \nWe’re so grateful to the community members who stepped in to preserve this 90-year old building. Because they did so\, you have the opportunity to visit the Conservatory in a safe environment to recharge and renew your energy as we head into the colder part of this year.  \nPlease partner with us to help to keep The Friends vibrant and thriving as an organization. Join us in contributing to the Annual Appeal so you and others can continue to enjoy all the facets of our Conservatory.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_button title=”Click here to donate” shape=”rounded” href=”https://fopcon.org/donate/”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
